Empowering Youth, Powered by Volunteers
April is an exciting time at Plummer Youth Promise. It is a month of change- with glimpses of warmer weather on the horizon, budding flowers, and a sense of renewal. April also brings us National Volunteer Week, which is observed every year on the third week of April (April 19 to 25 this year.) Volunteers are critical to our efforts in supporting youth on their path to permanency. Here at Plummer, volunteers have donated countless hours of their time over the years. We even have a volunteer that has been with us for over ten years! Learn more about Pauline here.
A 2025 study by UN Volunteers on the State of the World’s Volunteerism found that volunteering can have a significant positive impact on an individual’s health, well-being, and skills. It also noted that volunteers have the ability to strengthen solidarity, trust, and social cohesion and that volunteers’ impact can have a lasting change on communities past their time volunteering.
Here at Plummer Youth Promise, we are excited to grow our volunteer opportunities as we complete our renovations at our Winter Island Campus. Engagement varies, but every volunteer can make a difference.
Volunteer opportunities with Plummer Youth Promise include:
- Baking a cake for a resident in our care to help celebrate their birthday!
- Providing lunch or dinner, whether home-cooked or takeout, or bringing groceries to support youth as they practice cooking and build independence.
- Help us with our holiday gift drive. Including gift wrapping.
- Tell someone about Plummer Youth Promise! Building awareness can have a huge impact on furthering our work.
As we prepare to reopen the Caroline Plummer House, we’ll have more space to welcome volunteers and more ways to get involved in the future! Join our Community Heroes Facebook group or contact Jess Norton, Community Partnerships Manager.
