“Plummer Youth Promise is a great organization and I am so happy to be a small part of it.  I have other organizations that I support but this is the only one where I feel a real connection.  You play a big role in helping me feel connected.”

–Karen V., Plummer Volunteer who makes monthly dinners for the Group Home

We are immensely grateful for the many people who help Plummer Youth Promise achieve it’s mission by giving time. Volunteer opportunities range from short-term commitments like helping with mailings or events, to long-term commitments, like mentoring.

Before volunteering at Plummer for anything other than a one-day project or event, you will need to schedule a meeting with our Volunteer Manager, Emily. At the low end, volunteer training will include a one-hour overview of the work we do and the young people we serve. For long-term commitments like mentoring, training is considerably more substantial. Also depending on the nature of the volunteer work, volunteers may need to complete a background check.

Volunteer Spotlight: Sophie G.

Sophie Gonzales has been volunteering with us at Plummer since she was seven years old. You heard that right, seven! Her mother, Amanda Gonzales, organizes our Holiday Gift Drive each year and Sophie, along with her other siblings, are her right hand Elves.  Every Holiday season, Sophie dedicates countless hours organizing, labeling, wrapping, and personalizing hundreds of individual gifts for Plummer youth and families. You can always count on Sophie to put her compassion, time, and effort into the gift drive to make it a success.

What is really special about Sophie is that she puts personalized touches on each and every gift for our youth. She is extremely detail-oriented and pays close attention youths’ favorite colors and themes based on their wish lists. Thanks to Sophie and her family, we see smiles light up on the faces of Plummer youth during the Holiday season because they see their favorite character on their wrapping paper, or see their name spelled correctly on the To and From tag from Santa.

Sophie’s love for community service and volunteer work doesn’t end at our annual gift drive! She created her own self-led community service project called Cookies For A Cause. She sells cookies among her network that she bakes from scratch, hand delivers them, and donates 100% of the proceeds to five local nonprofit organizations she has partnered with, including Plummer Youth Promise. Sophie is a also full-time student and an incredible competitive dancer, yet still manages to balance her time and give back to her community in a variety of meaningful ways.

Not only does Sophie excel at any position you put her in, but she is also an absolute joy to work with. She is friendly, positive, warm, outgoing, and makes you feel welcome and connected as a Plummer volunteer in whatever project or event you may join in on. Her passion, can-do attitude, and team-building skills are an inspiration to all. We will miss her when she leaves for college, but we cannot wait to hear about all of the amazing things she will accomplish. Thank you, Sophie!
